The University of Maryland is a very large and active campus located in College Park, about eight miles from downtown Washington, D.C. and approximately 23 miles from Baltimore.
It is in the heart of one of the nation's richest and most varied areas in terms of accessibility to art, music, drama, historical landmarks, and sea and land resorts.
The university's proximity to Washington, DC allows opportunities for students within the SLAA program to conduct internships with international agencies and embassies, and large reputable research centers such as the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL).
The Center for the Advanced Study of Language (CASL) and the National Foreign Language Research Center (NFLC), both located in College Park, are affiliated with the University of Maryland and hold strong partnerships with the SLAA faculty.
