Cashing in on Culture: Indigenous Communities and Tourism 2002 (27 minutes, documentary)

The small tropical forest community of Capirona, after eight years of workshops, decided to admit tourists into their villages. The cash flow from tourism, without the fees exacted by travel agencies, could sustain their community as they set up an equitable plan for distribution of the funds. How has tourism changed their lives? What options exist for tourism to indigenous communities? Images in this video reveal the benefits and negative cost of tourism expressed in interviews with Quichua-speaking Indians, tour operators, set in a context of big business global economic systems.
