The Language House is a very busy place! Residents of the Language House will participate in various cultural, social and academic activities such as: - Lectures by faculty, embassy personel and guest lectures

(12 to 1:30 PM) Cafe, St. Mary's Hall The purpose of the Open House is to provide you with a chance to tour open facilities and one apartment in the Language House. The event is especially valuable for prospective students and their parents to receive information about the Language House Immersion Program, one of the many living-learning programs at the University of Maryland. Monday, October 26th, 2009 (6:30 to 9 pm)
The purpose of this event is for the residents in the Language House Immersion Program to share a little bit of what they have been learning about the culture of their target language with special guests who are involved or interested in the Language House. Each apartment cooks a dish from the culture associated with their target language which are then judge by a panel of special guests!
Coffee Conversation Fall 2009
Every Monday (4:00 to 5:30pm) except Oct. 26th
Multi-Purpose Room, St. Mary's Hall Join this weekly activity to practice, improve, or maintain your language skills in an informal, relaxed setting. In order to ensure that you are improving your skills, a native or near- native "facilitator" guides or oversees each Coffee Chat group. The facilitator can also give you vocab or grammar advice to help you better express yourself without interrupting the flow of conversation. Currently, 14 language tables are offered at the Language House Coffee Chats: - Arabic

- Persian
- Polish
- Portuguese

- Spanish
Other languages are featured occasionally during the semester. Call the Language House for more info on these non-weekly Coffee Chats or if you would like to add a language to the line-up.
